Today, I’m comparing the Flashforge Creator 5 against the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon with AMS, specifically looking at multi-color and multi-material printing. Both printers can create impressive multi-color prints, but they handle filament changes very differently.
The Creator 5 uses four independent extruders, meaning each color and material gets its own dedicated nozzle. That helps reduce purge waste, cut down on filament flushing, and avoid giant purge towers beside every print.
Meanwhile, the X1 Carbon relies on a single-nozzle system, with the AMS feeding different colors through a single hotend, which can generate a surprising amount of waste during color swaps.
In this video, I compare the workflow, waste generation, first prints, overall experience, and whether the Creator 5’s multi-toolhead system actually makes more sense for people printing lots of multi-color models.
If you’ve ever looked at a purge tower and thought “that’s basically a second failed print,” this video is probably for you.
