Burnham given green light by Labour to run in by-election as pressure grows on Keir Starmer

Andy Burnham has been given the green light by Labour to begin the process that he hopes will see him return to parliament.

The party's National Executive Committee has given him permission to stand in the selection process for the upcoming Makerfield by-election.

It comes as Keir Starmer's leadership continues to come under pressure, as Rob Powell reports.
