Industrial design student Sungwoo Choi imagines what a turntable by Nothing could look like with Turntable (1), a personal concept project with no official connection to the technology brand. The design translates Nothing’s transparent, modular, and graphic visual language into a vinyl player, turning the mechanics of listening into part of the object’s identity.
Rather than following the usual retro references of many turntables, Choi proposes a cleaner and more technological object. A white rectangular body, silver-toned details, transparent acrylic elements, and rounded control modules give the player the feel of a contemporary consumer device.

TRANSPARENT DETAILS AND PHYSICAL CONTROLS
The platter is framed by a clear acrylic ring, while the tonearm sits on a circular base surrounded by translucent layers. The controls include dials for 7-inch and 12-inch records, 33 and 45 rpm speeds, a large volume knob, play/stop button, and a small dot-matrix display marked MUSIC-AR.
A flush-mounted speaker is integrated into the deck, making the concept a self-contained audio system rather than a turntable that depends entirely on external equipment. The name Turntable (1) also follows Nothing’s product naming logic, suggesting how the brand’s design language could extend into analog sound.

ANALOG LISTENING MEETS CONSUMER TECH
Although only a concept, Turntable (1) connects vinyl culture with contemporary product design. It keeps the ritual of playing a record, but reimagines the turntable as a transparent, compact, and display-worthy object for today’s interiors. While the brand is not officially involved in the project, the concept shows how its visual language could translate naturally into analog sound.
