Yellowstone Crossover Status For Dutton Ranch Season 1 Confirmed By Kelly Reilly
Dutton Ranch's Yellowstone crossover potential gets a firm answer from Kelly Reilly. Though Yellowstone ended with season 5 in 2024, the world of Taylor Sheridan's hit neo-Western series lives on in the form of prequels and sequels. Set to premiere on May 15, Dutton Ranch is one such sequel. The series catches up with Reilly's Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser's Rip Wheeler, but it's been unclear whether the show will cross over with the franchise's other big sequel project, Marshals. Speaking with People, Reilly now confirms that Dutton Ranch and Marshals don't cross over in season 1. The latter show, which follows Luke Grimes' Kayce Dutton as a U.S. Marshal, is in the midst of its first season, and Reilly expresses interest in a crossover with Grimes down the road:
“I'm so proud of Luke, and we love him so much, and I miss him. I wish we had a crossover. Maybe we will in the future.”
Marshals premiered on March 1 and has been a big hit for CBS and Paramount+. Though Marshals reviews have been mixed from critics, viewership was strong enough to lead to a green light for season 2, which is expected to go into production this month. The Kayce Dutton sequel show is gearing up for its season 1 finale, which airs on May 24.
Created by Chad Feehan with Sheridan serving as an executive producer, Dutton Ranch chronicles Beth and Rip's attempts to protect their ranch in South Texas. This location represents a major shift from Yellowstone and Marshals, which both take place in Montana. What exactly would bring Beth and Rip into contact with Kayce, then, remains unclear. It's also worth noting that Dutton Ranch, which also stars Ed Harris, Jai Courtney, and Annette Bening, has not yet been renewed for a season 2. There's reason to believe a renewal will come, however, with Marshals bringing in over 20 million viewers in its first seven days of availability across platforms.
The Madison, another Taylor Sheridan show, was also a major performer, becoming the creator's biggest launch ever on Paramount+. Months before season 1 even premiered, it was confirmed that The Madison season 2 was a go, speaking to Paramount's confidence in Sheridan's projects. That's not to mention Sheridan's other multi-season shows like Lioness, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown. If it has Sheridan's name on it, then, it's likely to get a second season, meaning audiences will very likely be seeing Beth and Rip again. This obviously bodes well for Dutton Ranch and Marshals crossing over at some point in the future, but whether that happens will seemingly be up to Sheridan.
