Netflix's Unchosen Defeats Running Point & Beef to No. 1

Netflix has many successful franchises, and April brought back Running Point and Beef, both returning for Season 2. Unfortunately, they weren't as popular as a new release. The psychological thriller genre has become even more popular in recent years, and Netflix has many options. One of them is the latest release, Unchosen, which has been dominating the charts since its Apr. 21 release. That prevented both Running Point and Beef from topping the charts. Beef & Running Point Have a New Common Enemy Katrina Marcinowski/Netflix Beef is Netflix's long-running anthology. Season 1 was a major critical and commercial hit when it premiered in 2023, winning several Emmys and gaining a near-perfect score from critics. It followed two people from completely different backgrounds, who almost got into a car crash that escalated into a destructive car chase and a long, brutal feud. Season 2 didn't feature Steven Yeun and Ali Wong anymore, allowing a new cast to feud. Released on Apr. 16, Beef Season 2 doubled down on the drama as Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan's characters feuded with Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny. Season 2 received strong reviews, but it debuted in tenth place with only 2.4 million views on the Top 10 weekly charts, with 14.1 million hours viewed. In its second week, the numbers improved to 4.1 million views and 23.8 million hours viewed, and landed in third place, still nowhere near the success of the first installment. Kate Hudson's hit comedy series Running Point also returned on Apr. 23, and dropped in second place with 5.3 million views and 25.2 million hours viewed. The show received stronger reviews than Season 1, further exploring the fictional basketball team, the LA Waves' pursuit of a world championship. The show scored a quick renewal when it premiered in 2025, but Netflix has yet to seal its fate after debuting with 9.3 million views in 2025, almost twice as many as Season 2. Unchosen Has Been a Major Hit Beef and Running Point's returns didn't come at the best time, as the cult psychological thriller Unchosen defeated all odds. In its first week, it debuted with 10.4 million views and 46.9 million views, becoming the No. 1 show in 40 countries across the world, including the U.S. Unchosen follows Rosie, a wife and mother who lives in a religious sect. She follows the rules of her church, which include no contact with the "unchosen," those who aren't part of their sect. After her daughter runs away, she crosses paths with a stranger, which leads to her questioning everything. The thriller series received mixed reviews, as it holds a 70% approval rating from critics but only 42% from audiences. Unchosen was created by Julie Gearey, and it stars Molly Windsor as Rosie, Asa Butterfield as Rosie's husband, Adam, and Fra Fee as Sam.
