Netflix Sets Release Date for Sci-Fi Thriller The Last House

Netflix has officially set a premiere date for The Last House, a new sci-fi thriller. The film unites two Netflix series actors to lead the cast, uniting the two as parents hoping to keep their family safe when they awaken to find that they've been mysteriously trapped inside of their own home. It was announced that The Last House will be released on Netflix on Aug. 7, 2026. New images of the series have also been unveiled, showcasing the four members of the family looking terrified to find themselves in such a bizarre predicament. Greta Lee (Netflix's Russian Doll, Tron: Ares) and Wagner Moura (Netflix's Narcos, The Secret Agent) are co-starring as Ann and Jason, the mother and father, with the movie also starring Riley Chung (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Emma Ho (The Baker), Noah Alexander Sosnowski (Section 8), and Gabriel Barbosa (May December). A Safe Haven Becomes an Inescapable Nightmare Netflix “The Last House challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning a family home into a hostile environment where survival demands unity,” director Louis Leterrier (Fast X, Now You See Me) told Netflix's Tudum about the harrowing film. “This is an ordinary family’s worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security — and the desperate fight to reclaim it.” Moura added, “I was so intrigued by the notion of what it might mean to wake up one day and be physically sealed in your home — and not even understand why. I think about how my own family would respond and handle something like that. I connected with the stakes of the film and the character on a deep level because of that.” The stars of the film also teased that there are "layers and twists" that will keep viewers guessing the whole way through. In the movie, the members of the family will know just as much about what's happening as those watching. With no clear answers as to how this happened, the family must work together to survive as their resources start running thin, knowing that there's a mysterious, looming threat that keeps them trapped inside. Lee noted how her Ann character draws upon her motherhood to give the family an advantage in their perilous situation. Greta Lee's Ann's "Superpower" Is Her Motherhood Netflix “Ann is a rock,” Lee teased. “I’m so lucky to have had the chance to draw on all the women in my life who are the bedrock of their respective families. She has a selfless steadfast power that is unrelenting even in the most difficult times. She is the human embodiment of hysterical strength, the phenomenon where a normal person, in this case, an ordinary mother, can trigger an extraordinary surge of physical and emotional strength under extreme stress or danger. And it’s all in the name of love. That’s Ann’s superpower, just like so many other mothers I know in my own life.” Matthew Robinson (Love and Monsters) penned the screenplay. Leterrier also serves as a producer ont he project alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Oly Obst, and Kori Adelson. Executive producers include Thomas Benski, Cecile Gaget, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, and Damian Anderson. The Last House will premiere on Netflix on Aug. 7, 2026.
