Go Back to the Nineties With This Edward Enninful-Curated Exhibition
Prepare for a big dose of nostalgiaIt’s official, the nineties are back! The Barbican Music Library is currently hosting an exhibition showcasing the height of Cool Britannia, and this autumn, another 90s show is opening at Tate Britain. Former British Vogue Editor Edward Enninful is curating The 90s: Art and Fashion, so it’s going to have a slightly different focus, namely the DIY spirit of the decade and artists whose work drew attention to those outside of the Cool Britannia narrative. The exhibition will feature over 100 works from more than 70 artists, photographers and designers, including Juergen Teller, David Sims, Corinne Day, Steve McQueen, Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Yinka Shonibare, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Rachel Whiteread, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, and John Galliano. Some of the highlights include Mark Leckey’s 1999 film Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, Chris Ofili’s Turner Prize-winning tribute to Doreen and Stephen Lawrence, Damien Hirst’s formaldehyde sculptures, and Steve McQueen’s first major film.Touching on everything from nightlife to grunge to the impact of the AIDS crisis, the show will explore the way that Britain began to emerge from recession with a sense of optimism and freedom, and how that surge of creative energy changed British culture. The exhibition doesn’t open until October but you can book tickets now if you’re keen.Key InformationDates | Thurs 8th October 2026 – Sun 14th February 2027Address | Tate Britain, Millbank, London SW1P 4RGFor more information | tate.org.uk
