This Xbox Game Pass Freebie Is Perfect For Red Dead Redemption Fans
Despite releasing nearly a decade ago at this point, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still the pinnacle of gaming when it comes to an authentic and immersive cowboy experience, with little in the way of direct competition. While few games can match Red Dead Redemption's realism, that doesn't mean there aren't several games out there to scratch your Western-themed gaming itch. To sweeten the deal even more, one of the best action games set in the Old West is entirely free to play for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, letting you blaze through the much shorter adventure over a weekend, or if you simply want to try it out for yourself at no extra cost.
Xbox Game Pass Users Should Check Out Evil West

While the supernatural setting of Evil West might be a far cry from the realistic setting of RDR2, given that we never got a spinoff like the Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare expansion, a more over-the-top game like Evil West is a refreshing way to follow up a roleplay-heavy Rockstar title. Following the adventures of a vampire hunter named Jesse Rentier, Evil West offers a brutal hack-and-slash gameplay experience with a twist through its mix of ranged weaponry and close-quarter combos. Taking place in an alternate steampunk version of the 1890s, the story of Evil West involves stopping a high-ranking vampire attempting to overthrow humanity with an undead army of monsters that you'll have every weapon at your disposal to survive against. With the biggest complaint being that Evil West's gameplay loop can get a bit repetitive over the course of the 10–15 hours it takes to beat the main story, the linear experience that can be played entirely in co-op with a friend is far too short to overstay its welcome, unlike other action-based RPGs.
Think Red Dead Redemption Meets Old-School God Of War

With Evil West being compared to some of the best hack-and-slash titles from Devil May Cry to the classic God of War games, the supernatural action experience has plenty to offer for fans of the genre or anyone looking for a fun gameplay experience that doesn't take itself too seriously, especially with its powerful arsenal of weapons ranging from gatling guns, explosive crossbows, flamethrowers, and more.
With many players comparing an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 game made in the modern era, Evil West also has a touch of nostalgia if you're looking for a straightforward action game with more than a few creative gadgets and powers to mess around with, especially after the bittersweet ending and current live-service state of a game like Red Dead Redemption.
