Far Cry Leak Has Fans More Concerned Than Ever
The Far Cry franchise isn't necessarily in its finest form at the moment, and the newest update has fans concerned that it won't be turning around any time soon. While the chaotic open-world games have made an undeniable mark on the gaming landscape, with Far Cry 3's Vaas becoming something of an eternal icon, they've increasingly struggled to replicate that magic. Progress on the franchise has slowed since the last release, and over five years have passed following the launch of Far Cry 6 without a reveal of the next game. The latest leak offers an alleged look into how things are going, and unfortunately, it's not an optimistic one.
Far Cry 7 Isn't Proceeding Smoothly

A new podcast episode from Insider Gaming dives into the rumored progress of multiple projects at Ubisoft, including the status of the next Far Cry game. According to Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, "Far Cry's going through hell and back," pushing it out of an initially planned 2026 release window. That might not be entirely a bad thing, as additional time could give Far Cry 7 the chance to overcome the limitations of recent games in the franchise. Insider Gaming's Mike Straw certainly thinks so, saying "They gotta do right by it" and urging Ubisoft to take all the time it needs. All the same, the suggestion that development is struggling has fans worried that Far Cry won't be exiting its slump with the next release.
Far Cry Fans Aren't Too Happy
In response to a post sharing the Insider Gaming update, Reddit user Mission_Ad4032 calls the news "so disappointing." HearTheEkko shares that they're "surprised and sad that Far Cry 7 isn't the big fall game of the year," speculating that Assassin's Creed Hexe may end up taking that spot in its place. Beyond worries about the release date, fans generally lack confidence in the quality of the next title. Robsonmonkey raises a concern about the rumors of an in-game time limit, which could make the game experience feel "rushed." Muteconversation has the most pessimistic take, suggesting that rather than cooking on the back burner, Far Cry 7 is simply "rotting."
Far Cry 7 isn't the only game to receive an underwhelming progress update in the Insider Gaming podcast. The Splinter Cell remake has apparently also been pushed to 2027, and Henderson notes that Ubisoft's general 2026 plans have largely been victim to the batch of delays and cancellations announced in January. In good news, the Rayman remake is apparently "going well," so not all hope is lost for fans of Ubisoft franchises. Hopefully, we'll end up getting a look at Far Cry 7 and some other Ubisoft titles in the near future. Despite the company's fair share of misses, recent releases have been making incremental progress in some areas, backing away from problems like an overreliance on UI and the central use of increasingly stale "Ubisoft towers." Far Cry 7 could easily be another repetitive entry in the slumping series, but there's a chance that the "hell" it's going through could forge something more memorable this time around.
