Fundraiser launched to repatriate brothers who died in Clare drowning tragedy

An online fundraiser has been launched to repatriate two brothers who tragically drowned while fishing off the Clare coast.Named locally, Tajuddin Safi (30s) and Salahuddin Safi (20s), tragically lost their lives at Doonbeg, Co. Clare on Tuesday.The brothers, who were fishing with another brother and two cousins, fell into the sea at Blue Pool in Pullen Bay.A search was launched at 2.15pm on Tuesday and the bodies of the two men were found by the Coast Guard helicopter around two hours later.They were originally from Afghanistan and had been living in Limerick for around ten years. A prayer vigil was held in the city on Wednesday.The Go Fund Me, ‘Two young brothers lost forever, help bring them home’ has so far raised over €20,000.The organiser of the fundraiser wrote: “They were beloved members of the Afghan community in Limerick, full of home, dreams and love for their family back home.“Salahuddin had only recently married. His young wife remains in Afghanistan, waiting for the life they had imagined together, now shattered by unimaginable grief.“Thousands of miles away, their family cannot bring them home alone.“We are raising funds to repatriate Tajuddin and Salahuddin to Afghanistan so they can be laid to rest with dignity and surrounded by loved ones one last time.“Every donation, no matter how small, brings them closer to home. Please share widely and hold their family in your thoughts and prayers,” the organiser wrote.Earlier, Fianna Fáil councillor Abul Kalam Azad Talukder, who was friends with the brothers, said their loss is “deeply tragic”.He said the two brothers worked in restaurants and drove taxis.“I have known them personally very well for many years and I couldn’t believe that such wonderful people... my thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends and the Afghan community.”Donations to the fundraiser can be made here.Want to see more from the Irish Mirror?
