PH areas’ heat indices to reach ‘extreme caution’ on April 3
MANILA, Philippines — Heat indices in many areas in the country are expected to reach the “extreme caution” category on Good Friday, April 3, the state weather bureau said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) defines heat index as the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.” Indices ranging from 33ºC to 41ºC are automatically categorized as “extreme caution,” as such temperatures increase the risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which could lead to heat stroke.
