Mick Conlan retires from boxing after split-decision loss to Kevin Walsh
Mick Conlan has confirmed his retirement from boxing after suffering defeat to Kevin Walsh at the SSE Arena in Belfast on Friday night. The Belfast fighter lost on a split decision, with two judges scoring the ten-round bout 96-94 in Walsh's favour, whilst the other had it 97-93 to Conlan.Speaking afterwards in his dressing room, Conlan said: "It's the end of the road for me. I didn't think I had lost, but it wasn't good enough and that's the simple fact."I'm 34 now - I thought I had won but, listen, it is what it is. I don't want it no more and it's time to say goodbye to boxing."Numerous observers believed Conlan had done sufficient to win the tactical encounter that failed to truly ignite, including Carl Frampton, who was working on the bout for DAZN, reports Belfast Live.Nevertheless, Walsh, who maintains his undefeated record and improves to 20-0 after capturing the WBC international featherweight title, said: "I was very confident I got the job done to be honest. It was definitely a close fight, I've always been a fan of (Conlan) but I knew I got the job done. It was hard for him to figure me out honestly."He's a hell of a fighter but his time's up baby."Click here to sign up to our sport newsletter, bringing you the top stories and biggest headlines from Ireland and beyond.
