Weather expert warns 'crazy' amount of rain set to batter Irish holiday hotspot
Many Irish people book holidays around this time of year, having become fed up of the wet and windy weather that has dominated the winter months in this country. The beginning of spring into the Easter period is becoming ever-popular with tourists hoping for some sunshine and to get away from the gloomy conditions that we've seen since the beginning of the year. The Canary Islands is a top pick for Irish tourists, with La Palma a particular favourite because of its stunning beaches and typically reliable warm weather. But Irish weather expert Alan O'Reilly, who mans the @CarlowWeather account on X, has warned that those travelling to La Palma over the coming days shouldn't expect sunbathing conditions as the region is set to be battered by rain."The amount of rain forecast for La Palma in the Canaries over the next week is crazy," he posted this morning."Some other islands will see heavy rain too but not much for Lanzarote or Fuerteventura."Over the weekend, Mr O'Reilly outlined the risk of high rainfall in both the Canary Islands and Madeira. While Ireland is set to enjoy a spell of high pressure over the next few days, the southwest of Spain will experience unseasonably low pressure, resulting in a lot of rain to the western Canaries and Madeira.La Palma and parts of Tenerife are expected to be at the highest risk with most recent weather models showing up to 300mm of rainfall over the next fortnight in La Palma and as much as 270mm in Madeira.Holidaymakers have been advised to continue monitoring the forecast in advance of travel and pack appropriately.Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here.
