Dublin's most battered bridge strikes again as truck claimed as latest victim
Dublin's most battered bridge has been struck again this morning. The Shanty Bridge on the Blakestown Road in Mulhuddart has built a reputation as being one of the most infamous bridges in the capital. The notorious Mulhuddart structure that takes the N3 across the Blakestown Road saw has seen dozens of accidents over the years, as truckers are frequently caught out by the troublesome 2.6m clearance. The bridge, at one point, even had a Facebook page set up to document the many trials and tribulations of unlucky motorists that stumble into unfortunate incidents. And today, it claimed its latest victim, after a truck got itself lodged underneath the bridge this morning.Emergency services attended the scene, and closed the road while recovery took place. Dublin Fire Brigade posted a picture of the incident, saying: "Traffic restrictions have been lifted on the Blakestown Road."Firefighter/Paramedics responded to this road traffic collision earlier this morning. Always check your vehicles height when passing under bridges."Plenty of commenters tagged the now-defunct Facebook page, with one saying: "Surely the Mulhuddart Bridge should be in Guinness Book of Records. There are plenty of warning signs, but some drivers will chance their arm."Want to see more of the stories you love from Dublin Live?
