Horse found fighting for her life on busy Dublin road dies along with unborn foal

Harrowing moment motorists rush to comfort horse that was abandoned on road after collapsing from exhaustionA horse found fighting for her life on a busy west Dublin road after collapsing from exhaustion has sadly died - along with her unborn foal. The horse, named Anne by vets looking after her in UCD, was involved in sulky racing and was left "full of blood and cuts" at the side of a stretch of the N4 in Ballyfermot. Rescuers from My Lovely Horse Rescue attended the scene, alongside helpful motorists who stopped to assist. They feared her leg was broken when she was discovered and, haring a video of the scene, they wrote: "Her owners were seen kicking her when she went down in an effort to get her up, then ran through bushes, leaving her for dead on a busy road." They also said her owners "left her to die".In further updates throughout Monday evening, the charity said they rushed the horse to the emergency veterinary clinic in UCD for treatment. They said Anne was "seen falling earlier at a garage and being dragged up, then continued being sulkied up the road"."The shoes on her are in an awful state, not roadworthy whatsoever. How exhausted she must have been."And now, in a heartbreaking update, MLHR have shared that Anne has died. Anne was also pregnant, and her unborn foal also passed away. The charity also shred their understanding of what happened to Anne in her final hours. They wrote: "Her baby was fully formed, she fought so hard for two lives. She was pregnant, a mother and unborn baby killed."Here is what we know: There was a drive at Dollymount Strand of at least six sulkies. Anne was part of this. Anne was seen collapsing about an hour or so before the main incident. We know she was made get up and continue on a busy main road."Anne collapsed again and we believe slid for at least 30/40 metres. Her injuries align with this. Anne was seen being whipped and kicked to get back up. She didn’t, she couldn’t."Her abusers fled the scene into the bushes leaving Anne to die! Our team arrived and got Anne to UCD. She was given every chance, but couldn’t get up. There was too much internal damage and she had given up on life. Her fight for her and her baby ended."They also shared a message to "all the urban horse owners", saying: "You tell us you love your horses. You know who this was, we urge you to do the right thing, put your money where your mouth is now, and if you have any empathy and compassion for horses expose the people who caused this."They are not horse people, they are animal abusers."
