Ireland weather: Flood warning as rain alert in place for Dublin and seven counties

Status yellow rain warnings are in place today for counties Dublin, Louth, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Waterford.The warnings for Dublin, Louth, Wicklow will remain in place until 9pm while the warnings for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Waterford are due to expire at 3pm. The Met Eireann warnings are the latest in a series of warnings for wet conditions.The national weather forecasting service said that further flooding is a possibility. This is due to rain falling on already saturated ground, high river levels and high tides.Disruption to travel is also possible. "Further heavy rain falling on saturated ground combined with high river levels and high tides will lead to:Localised flooding River flooding Difficult travel conditions," said Met Eireann.The National Emergency Coordination Group (NECG) has warned the risk of flooding across the east and southeast regions is likely, and that the NECG and relevant response agencies are preparing for that risk."Rain will fall on saturated ground where river levels are high, with high tides are expected this week. This is likely to lead to further flooding along rivers and in coastal areas," they said in a communication from the Department of the Taoiseach."Spells of heavy and persistent rainfall will continue through the week of 2nd February, particularly in southern and eastern coastal counties.
