5,000 Dublin homes remain without full water services as works continue on Fairview burst water main

Up to 5,000 households in Dublin remain without full water services this evening as repair works continue on a burst water main in Fairview. There is still some flooding in the area. This is down from 100,000 households who were impacted this morning. Most of those who are still affected by the issue are experiencing reduced pressure, rather than a full loss of supply.Uisce Éireann expects that repairs will be complete by 10pm tonight. However they warn that it may take a number of hours beyond that point for a full return to normal service for everyone."Water has now been restored to the vast majority of homes and businesses in north Dublin following this morning’s burst water main in Fairview, with repair works continuing to progress well," said an Uisce Eireann update."Crews have been working in challenging, waterlogged conditions since early this morning to isolate and repair the burst with final works now underway.""Supply to customers was maintained by rerouting water through the network to minimise disruption. Throughout the incident, Uisce Éireann also ensured continuity of service for critical customers, including hospitals, and contacted vulnerable customers to offer support while repairs progressed."The major burst took place on a large water main at Edge’s Corner, Fairview Park in north Dublin. The burst occurred in the early hours of this morning. Uisce Éireann crews attended the scene promptly, working alongside An Garda Síochána, Dublin Fire Brigade and expert teams from Dublin City Council.Stephen Burke, Regional Water Operations Manager, Uisce Éireann, said:“We would like to thank teams from Dublin City Council, An Garda Síochána and Dublin Fire Service for their assistance with flood reduction and traffic management during the morning commute. The road, which was closed for several hours due to flooding, reopened at 11am. We would also like to sincerely thank customers for their ongoing patience as our crews work through difficult conditions to complete this complex repair and restore water.“Uisce Eireann also advise that as water and water pressure returns, there may be a short-term discolouration to the water. In the event of discolouration, running the cold kitchen tap for several minutes will usually restore the water to a clear colour.Join our Dublin Live breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive your daily dose of Dublin Live content. We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
