The most demanded occupations across the EU

Sales, marketing and development managers were the most demanded occupations in the EU last year, according to new data. At 8.4%, the occupation had the highest job vacancy rate or unmet labour demand across the bloc, indicating possible difficulties in recruiting staff. The experimental statistics are partly compiled using novel data sources on online job advertisements from Eurostat's web intelligence hub and EU labour force survey data. The occupations with the second-highest rate of vacancy were manufacturing labourers and other clerical support workers at 7.3% each. Behind them were other sales workers (6.1%) and artistic, cultural and culinary associate professionals (6%). Transport and storage labourers (5.8%), retail and wholesale labourers (5.7%), business service agents (5.4%), other stationary plant and machine operators (5.2%) and engineering professionals excluding electrotechnology (5%) completed the top 10. Occupations in the public sector, such as healthcare workers and teachers, may also face recruitment difficulties; they are less likely to be advertised online, meaning they rank lower or are not featured in these data.
