Taxi drivers to hold six-day 'shutdown' protest in Dublin next week
Dublin Taxi at nightTaxi drivers have announced a six-day protest in Dublin next week over Uber's fixed fares.Multiple protests have been held by drivers in recent weeks against Uber's new fixed fares model. In a statement, Taxi Drivers Ireland said that "after four weeks of warnings, protests, and direct appeals, the Government has failed to take any meaningful action to address the crisis engulfing the regulated taxi industry".Taxi Drivers Ireland spokesperson Derek O'Keeffe said as part of the protest, drivers will proceed in a convoy from Mountjoy Square to Merrion Square on December 8, 10 and 12 from 7am until 5pm.On Tuesday December 9 and Thursday December 11, there will be a protest by taxi drivers at all holding areas and access locations outside of Dublin Airport grounds from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.On Saturday December 13, there will be a "rolling convoy" from Dublin Airport into Dublin city centre, entering Dame St, as part of a "slow rolling protest". This will take place from 4pm to 6pm.The demonstration has the support of Taxi Drivers Ireland Cork Branch and Taxi Drivers Ireland Galway Branch, Mr O'Keeffe said. "We do not want protests. We want to work.
