Plans to increase number of apartments within huge housing development for Walkinstown Nissan site
Plans are underway to increase the number of apartments proposed for a former car showroom site in Dublin. The Nissan site at the junction of Walkinstown Avenue and the Naas Road is set to be redeveloped for a housing scheme with 1,137 apartments and a 148 room hotel. Now the developer, O'Flynn Construction Co, wants to add more units than originally proposed. But the idea has been met by pushback by Dublin City Council. While the council has not raised issue with the proposal itself, the application has been declared invalid three times this month due to issues with how it was submitted. Originally 395 apartments were proposed for four blocks (I, J, K, L) within the site, but now the developer wants to make that 416 units. Although the number of units will increase, the footprint and height of the already approved blocks will not. The new plans ask for permission for new terraces at ground floor level and 67 new balconies on the upper levels. It also asks that a build-to-rent block is now available for all types of housing. The development was initially approved in April 2021. Overall there will be 11 blocks of housing from B to L, with a hotel located within Block A. The highest building will be 15 storeys in height. If the new proposal is approved, it will bring the total number of apartments to 1,158. There will also be a slight decrease in the open space on site to make room for parking.
