Family of young girl injured in Parnell Square attack issue 'miracle' update

The young girl who was seriously injured in a stabbing incident on Parnell Square has been hailed as a 'miracle' as she prepares to celebrate her seventh birthday. The six-year-old was critically hurt outside a Gaelscoil on Dublin's Parnell Square in November 2023. Two other children and hero creche worker Leanne Flynn Keogh, who also sustained injuries, received treatment in hospital before being released. A GoFundMe page was set up for the young girl, called Barróg do Chailín Beag or a Hug For A Little Girl, with her family sharing updates on her health as people continue to donate to the fundraiser. So far, it has raised over €138,000. In a post shared on the fundraising page yesterday, the girl's family issues a 'positive' update ahead of her seventh birthday as they revealed that just last week "she was aided to walk from her bedroom to the living room". "Things are good. Good is positive," the family shared. "Our girl who is not so little anymore is about to turn 7. I don't look at pictures or videos of her from 2 years ago because it is unrealistic. She is not that girl. She is a miracle, and miracles shouldn't be compared to anything or anyone else. "She was not meant to come out of the ICU, yet she did. Just last week she was aided to walk from her bedroom to the living room. That is no small task. "Don't get me wrong, it still hurts, but her smile and sense of humour and inquisitive eyes ease the pain. We are 1 year into her recovery. I cannot imagine what will happen in a years time. And to be honest, witnessing it is far better than hoping for it." The young girl was released from Temple Street Hospital on August 30, 2024, after 281 days and in May of this year her family revealed that she is now back attending school full time. Riad Bouchaker (50), of no fixed abode, is currently before the courts charged with three counts of attempted murder, one of producing and possessing a kitchen knife, three counts of assault causing harm and one of assault causing serious harm.
