Social welfare Ireland: Last chance to apply for €285 cash boost before scheme closes
Applications for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance will close at the end of the month. The Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance provides a once-off, means tested payment to eligible families towards the cost of school clothing and footwear. The rate of payment for 2025 is €160 for children aged 4 - 11 and €285 for children aged 12 years and over in second level education. Applications for the scheme opened in June and will close on September 30. Most households that are eligible for the scheme automatically receive the payment but applications can also be made online. By mid-July, over 126,000 families across the country had received this year's payment. Eligibility for the scheme was extended this year to include children for whom Foster Care Allowance is being paid. It is estimated that up to 2,300 children, for whom Foster Care Allowance is being paid, now qualify for the Back-to-School Clothing and Footwear Allowance.
