South Korean civic groups rallied in Seoul against any deployment of South Korean troops to support the United States in its war with Iran. The protests came after President Lee Jae-myung ruled out South Korean participation or intervention in the conflict.
Demonstrators urged Seoul to reject military involvement, warning that deploying troops could put South Korean soldiers and citizens at risk. The focus now turns to the Cheonghae naval unit, already operating in the region, and whether Seoul could expand its role to protect citizens and shipping around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
