Germany is facing growing security concerns after suspected deliberate attacks targeted electricity infrastructure in Brandenburg and near Cologne. Authorities believe conductive material was fired into high-voltage lines, triggering short circuits and potentially risking wider blackouts.
The incidents come soon after Germany blamed Russia for an alleged drone attack targeting Leipzig-Halle Airport, one of DHL’s biggest global air freight hubs. As threats expand from power networks to railways, telecoms, data centres and water systems, Germany is being forced to invest heavily in resilience, surveillance, backup systems and emergency planning.
At the same time, Berlin is increasing defence spending, expanding tank and drone production, and treating civilian infrastructure as part of national security. But can Germany protect every power line, airport, warehouse and data centre from hostile attacks?
