Today, we’re diving back into one of the strangest recipes we’ve ever discovered as a British family trying American food and history. During the Great Depression, families had to stretch ingredients further than ever before — and somehow, people created desserts with almost nothing.

This is Water Pie….. a recipe made with simple pantry staples: water, flour, sugar, vanilla, and butter. No eggs. No milk. No fancy ingredients. Just resourcefulness and survival.

We’ve already been blown away by some Great Depression meals, but this one genuinely left us scratching our heads. Could a dessert made mostly from water actually taste good… or is this one of the strangest things America has ever created?

Along the way, we talk about life during the Great Depression, how people made food stretch during hard times, and why recipes like this still fascinate people today.
