🇸🇪 Sweden: Negotiations Underway for SVT Broadcast of Eurovision Asia
The Swedish public broadcaster SVT is reported to be in discussions regarding airing the Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026 live from Bangkok, Thailand.
Producers Christer Björkman and Peter Settman have stated in an interview with SVT that they are discussing with the Swedish public broadcaster the rights to broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest Asia. The Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026 will take place on November 14 in Bangkok, with contest organisers already stating the show will be available to watch globally via YouTube.
If SVT were to get the rights to the competition, Christer Björkman and Peter Settman believe the show would be made available through the broadcaster’s streaming service SVT Play. Should SVT secure the rights to air the contest, it would be the second non-European Eurovision format SVT has aired. The broadcaster previously aired the American Song Contest when it was held in 2022.
Eurovision Song Contest Asia
The first Eurovision Song Contest Asia will be held on November 14 in Bangkok, Thailand. Like the Eurovision Song Contest, each country’s participation is organised by a participating broadcaster. Each participating broadcaster is expected to select its entry through holding a national final in their country.
The format of the national selections will be revealed in the coming months, with some countries opting to hold multi-week selections.
The rules of the contest will match those of the Eurovision Song Contest, meaning that a song must not exceed 3 minutes in length and no more than 6 people can be on stage. The winner will be determined by 50% televoting and 50% jury voting.
