Austria’s broadcaster ORF has started its search for the country’s next Eurovision Song Contest representative.
Peter Schreiber and Cesár Sampson are heading the search for the next Austrian representative, as the broadcaster opts for an internal selection process for Eurovision 2027. Schreiber has called on interested artists to come forward for Eurovision 2027, stating that Austrian artists will be prioritised.
In a recent Instagram post, he said:
“If anyone is interested in participating in ESC 2027 for Austria: send me a message – and please read the rules for the songs on eurovision.com (if there are still questions open, you can ask me of course). Austrian artists preferred, general applications will be possible too, official announcement by ORF will follow later.”
The Austrian representative is then expected to be announced in late 2026 or early 2027, before the song is revealed at a later date.
Internal selections have brought Austria some of its greatest Eurovision successes. Both Conchita Wurst, who won the contest in 2014, and JJ, who secured Austria’s third Eurovision victory in 2025, were selected internally by ORF.
ORF has yet to officially confirm its participation in Eurovision 2027 or reveal further details regarding its selection process.

Austria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957. Bob Martin represented the country on their debut but finished in last place, scoring just 3 points. Austria has won the contest three times, the first being in 1966 when Udo Jürgens performed “Merci, Chérie”. It was 48 years later when Austria won again in 2014, when Conchita Wurst performed “Rise Like a Phoenix”, scoring a total of 290 points. Austria’s third win came in 2025, when JJ sang “Wasted Love” and scored 436 points.
