The announcement of the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 has been delayed as the selection process enters its final stages.
Sofia and Burgas remain in contention to host the contest following the completion of the first phase of evaluations.
Bulgarian broadcaster BNT has confirmed that the international working group responsible for selecting the host city is continuing its work, with additional clarifications from the shortlisted municipalities still under consideration. The broadcaster had previously indicated that the winning bid would be announced by the end of July, but no final decision has yet been reached.
The host city selection process initially featured four candidates: Sofia, Burgas, Plovdiv and Varna. Earlier this month, BNT announced that Plovdiv and Varna had been eliminated after an assessment of venue specifications, infrastructure, compliance with EBU requirements and the production standards required to host.
Sofia’s bid centres on Arena Sofia, which previously hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 and has a concert capacity of almost 18,000 spectators. The capital has highlighted its established transport network, international airport and experience hosting major international events.
Meanwhile, Burgas is proposing Arena Burgas as its host venue. Opened in 2023, the arena can accommodate up to 15,000 spectators, while the city is promoting its Black Sea location, international airport and extensive tourism infrastructure.
According to BNT, the working group is continuing to assess information provided by the remaining candidate cities before making its recommendation.
As of yet, there is no confirmation on a new announcement date.

Bulgaria was the winner of the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. The song that Dara performed in Vienna was called “Bangaranga”. It was written and composed by Anne Judith Wik, Cristian Tarcea, Darina Yotova (Dara), Dimitris Kontopoulos. The result brings Bulgaria its first victory in the Eurovision Song Contest. DARA is also the first artist since Salvador Sobral in 2017 to win both the public and jury votes. Prior to this, the country’s best result was second place, achieved by Kristian Kostov in 2017. Bulgaria emerged as a dark horse winner, that climbed rapidly in the betting odds after the second rehearsal.
