Man arrested after gardai stop scrambler bike and find pistols in Kildare

A man has been arrested after gardai stopped a scrambler bike in Kildare and found two pistols.Officers intercepted the bike along the Royal Canal Way in Maynooth yesterday evening, seizing two semi-automatic pistols and 39 rounds of ammunition. The man, aged in his 30s, who was piloting the bike, was arrested at the scene and is being held at a garda station in the county.A gards spokesperson said: "As part of Operation Twin Tracks, Gardaí from the Kildare North Community Engagement, supported by detectives from Kildare North Crime, conducted a proactive patrols on the Royal Canal Way in Maynooth on Wednesday evening, 6th May 2026. During the operation, Gardaí intercepted a scrambler bike, resulting in the seizure of two semi-automatic pistols and 39 rounds of ammunition."The rider, a man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at a Garda station in County Kildare under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
