Schmidt & Bartelt to close Oconomowoc location
OCONOMOWOC — The 151st year of Schmidt & Bartelt–Notbohm–Kreutzmann will be its last as the Oconomowoc location will be closing.Denise Meyer with the Schmidt & Bartelt location in Wauwatosa confirmed the pending closure, but declined to provide any more details, including why and when it would close.The funeral home began as Notbohm Funeral Home in 1875 at 163 E. Wisconsin Ave.In 1931, the Notbohm Funeral home moved to Cross Street, which was formerly the Notbohm residence and was converted to the funeral home, according to a post by area historian Laurie Muffler on her Facebook page, Oconomowoc Area - Then and Now. Construction began on the current location at 121 Cross St. in 1960. Twenty-eight years later, Schmidt & Bartelt merged with Notbohm Funeral Home and Kreutzmann Funeral Homes of Oconomowoc and became known as Schmidt & Bartelt–Notbohm–Kreutzmann Funeral Service.Schmidt & Bartelt offer several other locations in the area, including in Menomonee Falls, Mequon, Mukwonago, Sussex and Wauwatosa.
