Major airport cancels all flights to holiday spot - passengers urged to take action

A major airport has cancelled all its flights to a popular holiday destination owing to the rising cost of the fuel. Mavi Gok Airlines was due to fly to Antalya, Turkey from Teesside Airport every Wednesday this summer, with the route set to launch on July 1.However, the plan has now been scrapped. The weekly service was due to run until October 28, arriving in Teesside at 1.30pm and departing for Antalya at 3.30pm. A spokesperson for Teesside International Airport said: “While this is disappointing news, the rising price of oil and fuel due to international events has, unfortunately, meant the Antalya route has been removed from sale by MGA and will not be flying this summer."We’d encourage passengers booked with MGA to contact the airline for more information. Despite this news, we’re continuing to work hard with airlines and operators to secure more routes to and from Teesside Airport."UK airlines say they are keeping a close eye on possible fuel shortages following the conflict in Iran, raising concerns just as the busy holiday season approaches. The situation has already affected travel options from Teesside, where holidaymakers can no longer fly to Turkey after TUI cancelled its summer flights to Dalaman, despite the airport celebrating the start of the summer season only weeks earlier.Ryanair continues to operate year‑round services to Alicante and Malaga, along with summer routes to Faro, Majorca and Corfu — the latter starting in June with Tuesday flights — while TUI is still offering its seasonal Majorca service.
