‘The Blind Side’ Actor Learned His Wife Was Still Married When He Woke Up From a Coma: ‘My Biggest Mistake’
Quinton Aaron, the actor best known for his role in the Oscar-winning 2009 film The Blind Side, learned some shocking news about his wife while he was in the hospital recovering from a stroke.Earlier this year, the actor, 41, suffered a spinal stroke that put him in a coma for four days. In an interview with ABC News on Monday, April 20, he revealed that, when he finally woke up, his family informed him that his wife of two years, Margarita DeLeon, was still legally married to another man. As a result, she could not make medical decisions on his behalf.“The entire time we were together, she told me she had been divorced for 10 plus years,” he said, adding that when they tied the knot at an L.A. wedding chapel, “She even told the person where we were getting married, ‘Oh yes, I have all the documents. I can email over to you the divorce decree.’ ”He described not checking out his wife’s claim before their marriage as his “biggest mistake.”Speaking to the outlet, DeLeon explained that she was not being malicious when she told him her divorce from a man she married in 1992 had been finalized — she was just mistaken. ©2010 RAMEY PHOTO“When I told Quinton back in the hospital bed, and I want to be very honest about this, I feel like this needs to be said and brought out there…. I said, ‘Bibi, this information that your family pulled up on me, you know, I wasn’t aware of it.’ I said, ‘This is what I found out. It is true,'” DeLeon said in a separate interview with Good Morning America.Her estranged husband, Eric Guzman, filed for divorce in February and confirmed to the outlet that neither of them realized the papers had not gone through years ago.“If I had a chance to do it over. I would have done my due diligence. I would’ve definitely done a lot more research,” Aaron explained.It’s unclear at this time if Aaron and DeLeon are still together in light of the discovery. However, he did say that he truly loved her when they got married, speaking in the past tense.Meanwhile, Aaron is currently recovering from a spinal stroke and is focused heavily on regaining the ability to walk.
