Woman woke up to find man exposing himself outside her window
An unsuspecting woman was left in shock after suddenly looking out of her window in the early hours of the morning and realising to her horror that a seedy flasher was brazenly exposing himself to her in full view. The startling discovery that the man had deliberately targeted her while she was inside her first-floor flat came after she woke up with an uncanny "gut feeling" that she was being watched. The man was staring up at her from the street as she looked out of her window, Hull Crown Court heard. Mark Yates, 55, of Mintfields Road, Beverley, admitted an offence of exposure, with the intention of causing alarm or distress, on June 28 last year.Billy Torbett, prosecuting, said that a woman who lived in a flat in Bridlington, fell asleep on her window ledge at about 12.30am. She woke up at about 3am and had a "gut feeling" that she was being watched."She lifted her head and she saw an unknown male standing in the road opposite her flat," said Mr Torbett. "The male was two roads away when she first saw him."The woman went to the toilet but, when she returned, the man – later identified as Yates – had moved closer to her flat and he was now standing on the edge of the grass near to a lamp post. "She then used the zoom function on her mobile phone camera to confirm this and observed that the male's right hand was towards his waistband," said Mr Torbett.Yates was holding a white shopping bag. He approached the flat and stared up at the woman, while intimately exposing himself. He had his clothes on, including his trousers, however.Police went to the home of Yates on July 5. He confirmed his name and he was arrested and taken to Clough Road police station, Hull. Yates had a conviction for a public order offence on May 20, 2013, when he was given a one-year conditional discharge.Benjamin Donnell, mitigating, said that Yates pleaded guilty, made admissions and regretted his behaviour. He had been in custody on remand after failing to attend a previous hearing on March 13.He had been making progress recently with the issues that he faced and he had shown improvement. Yates was made the subject of a hospital order.Did you know you can make Hull Live a preferred source of Hull news in Google, which will mean you get more of our breaking news, exclusives, and must-read stories straight away?
