Albanian criminal jailed for being in Norfolk illegally

Marjan Ahi had been deported after being convicted of helping run a cannabis farm in Durham three years ago. However, he was stopped by police while driving a silver Lexus in Attleborough last month. Attleborough (Image: Newsquest) Norwich Crown Court heard the 24-year-old gave bogus details and produced false documents, including a fake Italian driving licence and ID card when stopped on March 16. Norwich Crown Court (Image: Peter Walsh, Newsquest) Danielle O’Donovan, prosecuting, said officers took his finger prints which revealed his true identity. It was established Ahi had previously been deported from the UK in December 2023 following his drugs conviction.  Ahi, of no fixed abode but previously of Bethel Street, Norwich, appeared at court this week after he admitted possession of ID documents with improper intention and entering the UK in breach of a deportation order. Rob Pollington, mitigating, said he had been in a relationship with someone in this country and had re-entered the country to try and continue that relationship as he was "desperate to see her". "He accepts he's gone about things in all the wrong ways," said the barrister. "In reality if this relationship is to continue it's going to have to do so outside of this jurisdiction." Mr Pollington insisted Ahi was "extremely apologetic" for what he had done. The court was also told the defendant accepted he did not have a driving licence and was uninsured and was "somewhat naive" in driving a car that belonged to a friend. Recorder Laurence Harris sentenced Ahi to 12 months imprisonment.
