Game of Thrones & Blue Lights Star Michael Patrick Dies at 35
Actor Michael Patrick, whose credits include an appearance in the famed HBO series Game of Thrones, died at the age of 35. Also known as Michael Patrick Campbell, the theater star originally from Ireland was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2023.
Veteran theater star Michael Patrick passed away at the age of 35. He suffered from motor neurone disease (MND) for over three years. Despite his diagnosis in February 2023, the actor led an adaptation of The Tragedy of Richard III, in which his character also had MND.
Patrick’s wife, Naomi, took to Instagram to announce his death on April 8, revealing that he passed away the previous night in the Northern Ireland Hospice after being admitted for around 10 days. “He passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends,” Naomi revealed, adding, “Words can’t describe how broken-hearted we are.”
“It’s been said more than once that Mick was an inspiration to everyone who was privileged enough to come into contact with him, not just in the past few years during his illness but in every day of his life. He lived a life as full as any human can live. Joy, abundance of spirit, infectious laughter. A titan of a ginger haired man,” she continued.
Naomi concluded the post, mentioning the Brendan Behan quote that Patrick loved, “The most important things to do in the world are to get something to eat, something to drink and somebody to love you.” and wrote, “So, don’t overthink it. Eat. Drink. Love.”
Though Patrick’s TV roles were limited as he dedicated most of his time to theater, he still played a memorable role in Game of Thrones. He was one of the Wildling Rioters on the show, and despite the minimal screentime, he managed to stand out. He made more TV appearances after this role, including in Steven Knight’s This Town and the BBC’s Blue Lights.
