M&S is rivaling Skims with its new sculpting lingerie line
First debuting a range of cotton bras in 1926, M&S has been synonymous with lingerie for a century. Now, the British retailer has announced the latest evolution of its underwear: a range of sculpting, invisible and seamless pieces that rival Kim Kardashian’s Skims. The store has always been at the forefront of lingerie innovation. In the 1920s and 30s, its collections were built for the flat-chested flapper silhouette – it wasn’t until the 1950s when small, medium and large cup sizes were introduced. Lyrca then changed the game in the 60s, helping with comfort and shape. M&S was a pioneer of in-store bra fittings, which began in the 1940. Nowadays, the retailer fits around 1 million customers each year – and most women can remember a trip to M&S has a teenager for their first bra. M&S’s latest lingerie launch, “body”, is the kind of underwear that prioritises comfort and support. Forget lacy, delicate and constrictive styles – the new collection is all about ultra soft fabrics, invisible silhouettes and stretchy technology.Designed to sculpt and smooth your figure, the underwear is available in various skin tones and body shapes, with sizes going up to 46H. Spanning bras, thongs, bodysuits, briefs and more, the lingerie is all machine washable and a fraction of the price of Skims – think £14 for a three pack of pants and £22 for a bodysuit.
