Dublin City Council receive zero noise complaints from Hoxton Hotel
A Dublin City Council report says they have received zero noise complaints from the Hoxton Hotel. The report revealed they received zero noise complaints from the hotel in the past year. The dispute between the Hoxton Hotel and its neighbouring restaurant/nightclub Yamamori Izakaya sparked widespread debate with the hotel alleging it had to close 31 rooms following noise complaints from guests. However, there was pushback from supporters of the club, who believed it contributed essential culture to the city and that it should be protected. The Hoxton only opening its doors in 2025, while Yamamori Izakaya has been operating since 1995.Yamamori management claims they warned the hotel owners about potential noise issues during the construction phase and pointed out that the hotel chose to convert former function rooms into bedrooms directly adjacent to the music venue. Noise complaints are the central issue of this altercation, yet a question submitted to the Chief Executive by Councillor Mannix Fynn asking how many official complaints the council received from the hotel to the Air Quality Monitoring and Noise Control Unit revealed the answer was zero.“No complaints were received by this Unit from The Hoxton Hotel regarding alleged noise nuisance from nearby nightclubs and licensed premises in past year,” the response published on April 3, 2026 said. Yamamori Izakaya owners stated they have already installed sound-limiting devices to ensure noise does not exceed reasonable levels. They also commissioned an expert report during the hotel's renovation to help the developers install proper soundproofing. The legal action from The Hoxton Hotel sparked significant public outrage leading to hundreds of people protesting outside the hotel with signs like "Clubbing is Culture." An online petition supporting Yamamori has also gathered thousands of signatures from concerned citizens..Despite the legal filing, the hotel's representatives claim they do not want to close the venue and are seeking a "collaborative solution." The Hoxton Hotel state the complaints resulted in them having to compensate guests and they estimate a projected lost revenue of some €300,000 by the end of March. The council report also revealed 644 noise complaints were received by the Air Quality Monitoring and Noise Control Unit across Dublin. When a complaint is received an investigation is carried out in accordance with the Niece National Protocol for Dealing with Noise Complaints for Local Authorities. This content is funded by the Local Democracy Reporting SchemeWant to see more of the stories you love from Dublin Live?
