Call for Brecon eateries to apply for business rates relief
Powys County Council is urging food and drink businesses in the county to take advantage of a rate relief scheme that could reduce their business rates for the current financial year.
The Business Rates Food and Drink Hospitality Rates Relief scheme for 2026/27 offers a 15 per cent discount on business rate bills for eligible businesses.
Jane Thomas, the council’s director for corporate services, said: "It continues to be a difficult time for businesses in the food and drink hospitality sector.
"This scheme supports businesses in these sectors so I would urge those who are eligible for this discount to apply for it as soon as possible."
The Welsh Government has allocated £197,000 to the council for the scheme, and up to 200 businesses in Powys could benefit from the relief.
The scheme covers pubs, bars, restaurants, cafés, and live music venues.
A maximum relief cap of £110,000 applies across all business properties.
The scheme will remain open until March 31, 2027, but businesses must apply to receive the discount.
