The Health Protection Surveillance Centre said norovirus is "currently circulating at very high levels in the community".Known as the winter vomiting bug, the virus spreads easily through close contact and contaminated surfaces, making outbreaks difficult to contain. The HSE is advising anyone with symptoms to stay home and avoid work or school for at least 48 hours after symptoms pass. People are also asked to avoid visiting hospitals, care homes or vulnerable individuals until fully recovered.Health officials warn that introducing norovirus into healthcare settings can lead to staff illness and service disruption. The HPSC said: "Your actions make a difference."To prevent spread, people should wash hands frequently with soap and water, as alcohol gels don't kill norovirus. Contaminated surfaces should be disinfected with bleach-based cleaners. The HSE said norovirus "usually clears up by itself in a few days" and can normally be managed at home with plenty of fluids.Follow dublinlive:At Reach and across our entities we and our partners use information collected through cookies and other identifiers from your device to improve experience on our site, analyse how it is used and to show personalised advertising.
