Teenage girl and woman charged in relation to attack that left woman in critical condition in Tipperary
A woman and a teenage girl have been charged in connection with a serious assault in Co Tipperary that left a woman in critical condition in hospital last week.Mum-of-one Scarlett Faulkner, 29 and from Limerick, is fighting for her life in Cork University Hospital following the horrific assault on Saturday evening at the side of the R494 in Birdhill in Co Tipperary.The vehicle she was travelling in was rammed off the road before she was dragged from the vehicle and attacked. The motive for the savage assault remains unclear.Ms Faulkner suffered severe head injuries in the assault and was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick, before later being transferred to Cork University Hospital.On Thursday morning, gardai from Nenagh arrested a woman in her 40s and the teenage girl at an address in Limerick in connection with the attack.They were both detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Garda stations in Co Tipperary.Gardai have confirmed that the woman and the teenager have since been charged in connection with the serious assault.They are due to appear before a special sitting of Limerick District Court at approximately 5pm on Saturday evening, March 28A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.Gardaí have appealed to the public not to share video footage of the incident that is circulating online, but to provide it to investigating gardaí insteadThey are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them, in particular they are seeking information on a grey 162 Ford Transit van and a blue 161 Volkswagen Touran people carrier that were being driven around Tipperary on the day of the assault.They said: "Any road users who were on the R494 between Birdhill and the M7 motorway between 5pm and 6pm on Saturday, 21 March, and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí."In particular, Gardaí are seeking information on the movements of two vehicles, a grey 162 Ford Transit van and a blue 161 Volkswagen Touran people carrier, travelling in convoy or driving dangerously between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Saturday, 21 March in and around Birdhill village, the townlands of Cooleen, Crag Cross, Shower Cross, Kylebeg, Annaholty and Thornhill, all in Co Tipperary."Anyone with any information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station on (067) 50450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
