Showaddywaddy star Trevor Oakes dead as co-stars mourn 'unique' musician
One of the founders of Seventies group Showaddywaddy has died, the group announced today. Trevor Oakes passed away peacefully last month after “a long illness” the group's former lead singer Dave Bartram, who is also their manager, said.He said: “Trevor was a unique character and a dedicated professional, without whom the band would never have quite scaled the dizzy heights we seemed destined to achieve.“He was also a caring and affectionate family man, with a mischievous sense of humour, which will be sadly missed by all those dear to him.“I could write a book about the incredible memories we’ve shared over the past fifty-seven years, but most of all I thank him from the bottom of my heart for his unwavering friendship."READ MORE: Olivia Attwood and Bradley Dack 'never really married' say insiders amid cheating claimsREAD MORE: Peter Andre's wife Emily reveals she's been diagnosed with painful conditionTrevor is thought to have left the band - famous for songs including Under The Moon Of Love - in May 2009 when he was aged 62 after suffering from ill health.Showaddywaddy were formed in 1973 when two groups, Choise and the Golden Hammers, merged in Leicester. Trevor was a member of Choice, alongside Dave Bartram, Al James, and Romeo Challenger.Because it came from two bands, the new group was large - it had two vocalists, two drummers, two guitarists, and two bassists. It went on to specialise in performing hits from the 1950s and 1960s, plus original material.Showaddywaddy also won one programme on New Faces, the Britain's Got Talent of its day, and had a BBC TV special in Christmas 1980.They had ten Top 10 singles and one No1 - Under The Moon of Love, which topped the charts in December 1976.
