Tallaght is ranked as the most challenging driving test centre in Ireland, according to new data.The centre boasts one of the lowest average monthly pass rates at 46.3% alongside and incredibly high demand, with 1,690.3 tests scheduled and the longest waiting times of an average of 26.7 weeks. Finglas comes in a close second with an even lower pass rate of 42.3%, coupled with high volumes of applications and a substantial number of missed appointments each month.Long queues, missed appointments, and limited test availability all make booking a driving test into a frustrating ordeal for learner drivers. New data from Chill Insurance said that this strain is particularly prevalent in Dublin.Several test centres manage high volumes of applications along with frequent no-shows and longer-than-average wait times. Comparatively, Galway emerges as a standout region, boasting several high-performing test centres including Clifden, Loughrea, and Tuam, which all have impressive pass rates, minimal no-show figures, and reasonable waiting periods.For learner drivers prepared to travel, these locations provide a swifter, more relaxed path towards securing your licence.Ian O'Reilly, Director of Sales and Insurance at Chill, said: "Being flexible about when and where you take your driving test can really pay off. Tallaght, Co. Dublin stands as the most challenging location on the list. It currently has a pass rate of 46.3% and the longest wait time for applicants at 26.7 weeks.2. Finglas, Co. Dublin is ranked second in difficulty. While its wait time of 16.3 weeks is lower than others in this tier, its pass rate is quite tough at 42.3%.3. Cork (Wilton), Co. Cork rounds out the top three. Drivers here face a pass rate of 54.0% with an average wait time of 21.5 weeks to secure a test date.4. Dun Laoghaire / Deansgrange, Co. Dublin takes the fourth spot. This centre has a pass rate of 50.8% and a significant backlog resulting in a 24.8-week wait time.5. Mulhuddart, Co. Dublin is the fifth most difficult centre. It maintains a pass rate of 45.8% and requires a wait of approximately 22.3 weeks.6. Charlestown (Dublin), Co. Dublin ranks sixth overall but is notable for having the lowest pass rate on the entire list at just 37.6%. The wait time here is 18.4 weeks.7. Waterford, Co. Waterford is in the seventh position. It features a 39.1% pass rate and a relatively shorter wait time of 16.4 weeks compared to the Dublin hubs.8. Raheny, Co. Dublin is ranked eighth. Candidates here see a pass rate of 53.6% and can expect to wait 22 weeks for their driving test.9. Navan, Co. Meath takes the ninth spot. Interestingly, it has the highest pass rate of this specific group at 58.0%, though the wait time is still high at 22.8 weeks.10. Killester, Co. Dublin is the tenth most difficult centre. It has a pass rate of 44.1% and a wait time of 17.7 weeks, making it the "least difficult" of this high-pressure list.For learners, the month that you take your test can have an impact, with January standing as the most successful month overall, recording the highest average pass rate since records commenced in 2021, at 52.46%. July and May follow closely behind with 51.42% and 51.28% respectively.December proves the most challenging month, with just over half of candidates successfully passing their examination in the year's final month.Ian advises: "Being flexible about when and where you take your driving test can really pay off.
