Star Trek: Starfleet Academy begins in 3192, a year after the end of Star Trek: Discovery, and continues the 32nd century timeline about the United Federation of Planets rebuilding after The Burn. The USS Discovery was regularly mentioned throughout Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 1, with hand-waving reasons why Captain Burnham didn't Black Alert to the rescue when the USS Athena got in trouble. In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 1's finale, Discovery couldn't use its spore displacement hub drive to jump past Nus Braka's Omega-47 wall without detonating the mines blanketing the Federation. While Star Trek: Starfleet Academy made it clear that the USS Discovery was out there in the galaxy, Captain Burnham's mighty starship is still a sight for sore eyes. Why Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Avoided Showing USS Discovery Until Season 1’s Finale
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a direct spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery, but it is its own series and Captain Ake's saga had to establish its own identity. Nus Braka may have been a threat that would ordinarily warrant calling in Captain Burnham, but Discovery's absence was by design.
