Spider-Man & Superman Get Their Own Civil War In Official Marvel & DC Art
Crossovers don’t get much bigger than Marvel Comics and DC joining forces. Following the incredible ride last year that was Marvel and DC's Batman/Deadpool crossovers, this year will bring us brand-new Spider-Man & Superman one-shots celebrating the 50th anniversary of their original team-up. With DC's crossover releasing in just a couple of weeks and Marvel's dropping in April, several new variant covers have been released for both exciting new issues. However, one Spider-Man/Superman variant cover is particularly exciting, giving the two superhero icons their very own Civil War.
Spider-Man & Superman's New Civil War-Inspired Variant Cover Is A Must-Have
One of the most exciting pieces of artwork revealed for Marvel's Spider-Man/Superman #1 comes from artist Giuseppe Camuncoli, having created a stunning variant cover tribute inspired by Marvel's iconic Civil War #1. Originally created by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, the cover art for Civil War's very first issue naturally features Captain America and Iron Man with their various allies, with Spider-Man being quite prominent given his public unmasking in the iconic Marvel event. Now, Camuncoli’s homage brilliantly recreates that same composition, this time using heroes and villains from both the Marvel and DC universes. In the new artwork, Superman takes Captain America’s place at the front of the cover while Spider-Man still mirrors the same pose from the original cover. Behind them, a massive lineup of allies and foes can be seen across the wraparound artwork, with members of the Super-Family standing right alongside some of Spider-Man’s closest allies. The homage also includes some clever substitutions for characters from the original artwork. For instance, Miles Morales and Ben Reilly take the place of Iron Man and Uatu the Watcher from the original image, while Lex Luthor and the Green Goblin are featured on the back of the issue. Humorously, Luthor has replaced the similarly follically challenged Professor X in the exact same pose. Overall, the result is a fantastic tribute to one of Marvel’s most famous comic covers. While there are going to be plenty of variant covers collectors will want to get their hands on, this new Civil War homage definitely stands out as one of the most creative as a major must-have.
Everything We Know About Marvel & DC Comics' Upcoming Spider-Man/Superman Crossover Comics

Here's what we know so far about DC and Marvel's respective Superman and Spider-Man one-shots. The first issue will be coming from DC with Superman/Spider-Man #1, arriving in March with a main story written by Mark Waid with artwork from Jorge Jiménez. The story will see Clark Kent and Peter Parker covering the same story for their respective newspapers, the Daily Planet and the Daily Bugle, eventually clashing with both Doc Ock and Brainiac. Beyond the main story, the issue will also include several backup tales featuring other characters from both universes. These stories will include a team up with Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson, Jimmy Olsen encountering Carnage, an encounter between Spider-Man 2099 and the Legion's Superboy, a showdown between Power Girl and Punisher, a story featuring Superboy Prime and Black Suit Spider-Man, The Daily Planet vs Daily Bugle, and even Pa Kent meeting Uncle Ben.
April will then bring a second one-shot from Marvel with Spider-Man/Superman #1. The main story will be written by Brad Meltzer with art by Pepe Larraz, featuring Spider-Man and Superman taking on their arch-foes, Lex Luthor and the Green Goblin. Backup stories will include Spider-Man Noir & Golden Age Superman, Wonder Woman teaming up with Jan Foster's Mighty Thor, John Henry Irons vs The Hobgoblin, Gwen Stacy meeting Lana Lang, Miles Morales' Spider-Man with Superman, as well as Ghost-Spider and Supergirl. With all-star creatives for these back-up stories, it looks as though these upcoming Superman & Spider-Man crossovers will be historic comics few superhero fans will want to miss. DC's Superman/Spider-Man #1 releases on March 25th, while Marvel's Spider-Man/Superman #1 releases April 22nd.
