Little Scrutiny, Much Influence: The Future of Media Report
One document keeps coming up again and again in relation to disastrous developments in the Irish media landscape, such as the decision to start awarding funding via Coimisiún na Meán to media outlets across Ireland. And yet, that document has received very little attention outside of the circles citing it to implement those changes.
The Report of the Future of Media Commission is a 284-page tome, that came out of the work done by, you guessed it, the Future of Media Commission. It was an independent body established in 2020 to “undertake a comprehensive and far-reaching examination of Ireland’s broadcast, print and online media”, and to consider “how media can remain sustainable and resilient in delivering public service aims over the next decade”.
