Top European star's Ryder Cup involvement in doubt

Team Europe may be without one of its key golfers for next year’s Ryder Cup in Ireland. The 2027 event is being held at Adare Manor in Limerick, with Rory McIlroy and co looking to make it three wins in a row. A number of golfers have been granted conditional releases by the DP World Tour to play in conflicting LIV Golf tournaments for the 2026 season. Tyrell Hatton is among a group of eight players who have been granted the releases, as well as Tom McKibbin, Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig and Elvis Smylie. Rahm, on the other hand, has said he has ‘no intention’ of paying the necessary fines due to unauthorised appearances for LIV Golf. Jon Rahm refused to make a deal. In a statement, the DP World Tour said: ‘Each member has accepted the conditions specified by the DP World Tour for their release, which include the payment in full of all outstanding fines for breaches of the DP World Tour’s Regulations, participation in additional stipulated DP World Tour tournaments, as well as associated media activity and promotion and the withdrawal of all pending appeals. ‘The conditions these members have accepted will provide additional value to the DP World Tour and benefit to the entire membership. The Spaniard has chosen to pursue his appeal against the sanctions imposed on him, which is scheduled to be heard in the next few months.
