Unemployment surges to 5.2% – UK youth hit hardest
UK unemployment has risen to its highest for almost five years, as new figures from the Office for National Statistics show the rate went up to 5.2% in the last quarter of 2025.
And it’s young people bearing the brunt of the weak jobs market – with unemployment for those aged 16-24 now at its highest for a decade. We’ve been to the West Midlands to hear from those who’ve found a route back into work.
