Joe Brolly takes aim at RTE GAA pundits over comments

Joe Brolly pulled no punches as he took aim at RTE's punditry panel for their comments during Kerry's 2-17 to 3-14 triumph over Galway on Saturday evening. One of the biggest talking points coming into the game was the decision of Galway boss Padraic Joyce to start Eamonn McGrath in goal for his first appearance in the maroon of Galway.McGrath struggled on the evening, with a couple of the Kerry goals being attributed to his errors. While on punditry duty for the game, former Dublin footballer Paul Flynn labelled McGrath's inclusion as "interesting," before showing restraint in his criticism of the keeper my labelling his maiden start as an "eventful debut."Writing in the Irish Independent, Brolly took aim at Flynn for essentially not putting in the boot on the 21-year-old, and he also couldn't resist taking a pot-shot at Flynn's punditry in general : “I think it’s interesting,” said Paul Flynn (of McGrath's inclusion), which was more than could be said for the punditry..."It is not unfair to say it was a disaster for Eamonn, not helped by the way the panel patronised him at half-time and after the game. “An eventful debut” was how it was put."His kick-out was butchered. He kicked two ’45s wide. He gave a four-foot handpass to the Galway corner-back putting him in dire trouble, leading to the interception that caused the first Kerry goal. He dropped the ball to Clifford for Kerry’s second goal."Eventful?"Some strong words from Brolly, who seems to be more annoyed with Flynn's decision not to slate the young goalie than the keeper's actual performance itself. As for McGrath, the youngster will only learn from his first game between the sticks in the league, and he still has a bright future ahead of him at only 21.Want to see more of the stories you love from the Irish Mirror?
