Roscommon v Armagh LIVE updates from the National Football league clash

Roscommon got the better of Armagh at Dr Hyde Park in Sunday in a match that can be summed up as the quintessential game of two halves. The Rossies bossed the first period, and had two goals on the board in the space of five minutes thanks to finished from Diarmuid Murtagh and Enda Smith. Roscommon had a strong wind on their backs in the opening period and they made the most of the advantage, with Murtagh in particular looking very sharp from outside the arc. Oisin's O'Neill and McConville kept Armagh withing touching distance, and while they trailed by 12 at the break, it realistically could have been much worse with the score 2-14 to 0-8. The second-half belonged to Kieran McGeeney's men and they went about eating into the Roscommon lead. A run of four scores in a row, the latter couple being two-point efforts from the impressive Oisín O'Neill, cut the gap down to 7 points. And Armagh thought it had been reduced to four when Ross McQuillan fired home after a fluid counter attack. The celebrations were short-lived however, with Armagh being pinged for a 3v3 breach, allowing Murtagh to steady the ship with a simple score. When a goal finally came in the second-half at the hour mark, it went the way of the hosts, with Paul Casey palming into an empty goal to put nine points between the sides. Again, Armagh were to show tremendous character and rattled off five scores on the spin to really make things interesting, but Roscommon were able to hang on for the win. A huge win for the Rossies, but a case of what might have been for Armagh, who gave themselves a two-goal handicap in the opening few minutes of the game.
