Andy Reid Confirmed as HP Director of Swim Ireland

Swim Ireland has confirmed the appointment of Andy Reid as its new National Performance Director, formalising his leadership of the organisation’s high-performance programme at a key point in the Olympic and Paralympic cycle. Reid has been serving as Interim National Performance Director since May 2025 and previously held the role of Head of Performance Pathways & Operations. He has been part of the Swim Ireland Performance team since 2010 and brings extensive institutional knowledge alongside first-hand international experience as a former Irish international swimmer. During his competitive career, Reid represented Ireland at European and World Championships and competed for Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games. Announcing the appointment, Swim Ireland Chairman Cathal Marley said the move comes at a pivotal time for the organisation’s performance ambitions. “We are delighted to officially appoint Andy to the role of National Performance Director at a pivotal time for our performance programme,” Marley said. “His experience, strategic insight and commitment to athlete-centred performance aligns strongly with Swim Ireland’s vision to inspire and enable excellence at all levels. I am confident Andy will continue to build on our recent progress and drive continued success on the international stage.” Interim CEO Mary McMorrow described the appointment as both logical and strategically sound, pointing to Reid’s deep understanding of the organisation’s systems, people and performance culture. “Having already served as Interim National Performance Director, and with a deep understanding of the organisation’s systems, people, and performance culture, Andy’s appointment as Performance Director represents a natural and strategically sound progression for Swim Ireland,” McMorrow said. “I am incredibly honoured and proud to be appointed National Performance Director with Swim Ireland,” said Reid. “Having been involved in Irish swimming for over 40 years as an athlete, coach and most recently as Head of Performance Pathways and Operations, this role means a great deal to me.” He added that he sees strong foundations already in place within the performance system. “I’m excited by the challenge ahead and the opportunity to build on the strong foundations already in place. We have outstanding athletes, coaches and support staff who are deeply committed to achieving their true potential, representing Ireland with pride on the international stage and challenging for podium finishes. I look forward to working together to continue driving our performance programmes forward.” As National Performance Director, Reid will oversee Swim Ireland’s overall performance strategy, with responsibility for enhancing athlete and coach development pathways and delivering competitive outcomes at major international events, including European and World Championships, as well as Olympic and Paralympic Games.
